Before creating this website, I looked at many websites for high school library media centers. I found a wiki with many great examples, but I want our site to the best. My main goal was to create something that would be useful to students, teachers, school staff and administrators, parents, and community members. I did not want to have a site no one ever cared to visit. So, I've picked my top ten favorite high school media center websites and listed them below with a brief description of why I think they are great. I welcome your comments below. Please share your thoughts on this website (what should be included, excluded, etc.) and if you know of an incredible library/media center website, share the URL (web address) for that site in the comments section below. Thank you for your help making this the best website it can be.
Holloway LMC Website Top 10:
10. Dr. Charles Best Secondary School Library - I love the How can we help?, Who to trust?, and Why read? sections of this website. I also love his quote at the top.
9. Penfield High School Library - I love the Bart Simpson chalk board clipart and the wealth of information about Databases. I really want to beef up my references section and truly teach the benefits of databases and how to best use them for research.
8. Lakeview High School Library - The site is good, but the main thing I like is the picture of their library...one word - wow! I love how they have divided their site into three Rs - reading, research, and resources.
7. Newton North High School Library Learning Commons - They have a ton of resources on this site. I think it is a little jumbled, but I like how they included their twitter feed and the app to view how many books had been checked out.
6. Plymouth Regional High School Library - I like how they have an entire section on MLA formatting/citing/copyright. I got the idea to add our Book Club to our library site from this website. I also like the other publications they offer - literary magazine, newsletter, etc.
5. Canandaigua Academy Library - I like his featured section on the home page, his reading room section, and his custom searches section. My favorite part of this site is his section devoted to Creative Commons. I'd like to add a section on this topic for our students.
4. The Big House Library - Casa Grande High School - My favorite sections of this site were the resources and the projects. I attempted to begin this philosophy on this site, but I have a lot of working to do to catch up with their site.
3. Castilleja School Library - I liked the logo, the featured books/events slideshow and the blocks for buttons. I loved the new books section.
2. Mira Costa High School Library - I love all of the videos found on this site, and I like how they have a page for parents. I'm going to add a parent page to this site.
1. The Unquiet Library - Creekview High School - I'll admit it...I'm a Buffy Hamiliton stalker. If you are a librarian and you have never heard of Buffy Hamilton, you are missing out. If you are a CHS student/administrator/faculty member, please do not Google her name because you will see everything that I could do, but have not yet begun. I love everything about her "unquiet" philosophy and all the extras she does for her students. One year...I'll get there...hopefully.
So...what do you think? Add your comments/suggestions.
